Magic Breakfast

Locations: Lambeth, Camden, and Hammersmith & Fulham.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, as many as 1.8 million school age children in the UK were

at risk of hunger in the morning, however this figure is likely to have risen recently, with a report by the Social Metrics Commission showing that the economic impacts of Covid-19 are most heavily affecting those who were already in poverty prior to the crisis.

Magic Breakfast ensures that no child in their partner schools is too hungry to learn in the morning by providing healthy breakfast food and expert support to help identify and reach those pupils at risk of hunger. A hungry child cannot concentrate so could miss out on half a day of lessons every school day if not given anything nutritious to eat first thing.

Magic Breakfast works with 480 schools to make sure that, in normal times, more than 48,000 children start their school day in the best possible way. During lockdown and school closures the charity has been keeping breakfast deliveries going to the most vulnerable children, via their partner schools or directly to the doorsteps of families who would otherwise be difficult to reach.
